In 1934, a group of Springfield utility workers decided to form a credit union that would provide themselves and their coworkers with a better place to save and borrow money. Through their efforts, the City Utilities Employees Credit Union was founded.
After years of serving City Utilities employees and their families, in 2005 we were able to expand our limited membership to include anyone living or working in Greene or Christian counties. This is also when we introduced our new name to reflect our community membership: CU Community Credit Union.
While many things have changed through our 74 years of service, our commitment to the credit union philosophy has remained the same - we're still "people helping people", seeking the financial solutions that best fit our members' needs.
As a member-driven, not-for profit financial cooperative, our sole purpose is to serve our members by offering them reliable, secure and innovative products and services, while maintaining our financially strong foundation. We're proud of our history and our community, and invite you to check out what makes CU Community different.
Here are just a few reasons to consider making CU Community your primary financial institution:
- Our Culture. At CU Community we strive to create a low-pressure, friend-to-friend atmosphere where members are treated with respect and given more flexibility with their finances. As our mission states: "We exist to provide affordable, quality financial services for the members of our community."
- Our Values. We're family-oriented and work hard to build lifelong members. We're proud to serve many generations at our credit union.
- Our Community. We're also proud to be a part of Southwest Missouri. We're active in our community both financially and through service, and encourage our employees and members to do the same.
- Our Innovation. While many assume our small size also means small offerings, we think our size offers us great flexibility with our services. It also allows us to easily hear from those who matter most - our members - and keep a close watch on what we can do to help them.
